This is about the Conway stewart number 60 which was the "top of the range" pen during the 1950's. For other pens of the time such as the 27, 28 and 58 series, the commonest colour variations are the marbled blue, marbled green and marbled burgundy or plum, but with the 60 series, I have yet to see a marbled green or marbled burgundy. I have checked literally hundreds of pens and not a one. I am beginning to think that perhaps for some obscure reason they decided not to use these colours for their most prestigious pen. The pictures opposite are not of the 60 but of the similar and slightly smaller 27 series. There are also two other numbers that are identical to the 60. I have a black 57 from New Zealand, and somebody else recently bought a 62 double banded green hatched pen from Australia. Probably both were trial numbers for export. Also I have a number 60 silver herringbone listed though I have not yet seen it. |
